Welcome to Medicine of the Heart

“Our senses, restored, never to be the same, whisper to us. They existed. They existed. We can be. Be and be better. For they existed.”

-Maya Angelou

I am grateful you are here.

Medicine of the Heart is a space for you, your body, and the often subtle and, at times, quite prominent yearnings of the soul that come through in the form of pain and emotional imbalances.  My name is Cythera Wilkerson and I have been working with individuals on their healing journeys for 10 years.  In my experience, the deep interconnectedness that is present in humanity makes healing possible in relational spaces. I appreciate the opportunity to share with others about the rituals and practices that have supported my own body and soul. My formal training as an acupuncturist provided an opening for this work and has been complemented by trainings and time spent with dream work, guided breath work, grief work, and antiracism work.  It is through these and other modalities that we can explore the blockages in your life.  Dropping into the somatic parts of ourself is something that our culture has become disconnected from.  We have become separated from our rootedness, physically and emotionally, and we are starving for these reconnections.  It is through the connection to safe containers for our healing that we are able to remember these deep knowings and my intention is for Medicine of the Heart to be a space for this work.

Boundaries are at the heart of all of this.  As a part of a western culture that does not connect with the profound importance of bringing clarity to boundaries, I have seen how deeply this can impact our experience of medical treatment.  Medicine should not be an oppressive or forced experience, which so often happens in the broken system that is our model.  We need each other to heal and we need to listen to the person who is asking for guidance.  We need clarity around our boundaries. What feels safe for my senses: what smells, touch, and light allow me to feel like I can connect to my healing space? And what is my heart ready to open up to? As we become disconnected from our clarity around boundaries due to trauma and the sensational overload that comes with living in the current state of our planet, we simultaneously become disconnected from our ability to receive love from the world around us and from our own healing nature.

It is through a connection to our bodies that we remember. It is through the ability to access safe spaces that we remember.

Medicine of the Heart is a space for this exploration.
